The largest Castle complex in the world, the oldest Astronomical clock still in use, the best ZOO in continental Europe or the world´s most famous Beer: these are just a few attractions which Prague has to offer. The capital of the Czech Republic – often called „the Golden City“ – attracts millions of tourists each year. With its historical monuments, mystical and picturesque nooks, beautiful architecture and rich cultural program as well as lively nightlife, it is no surprise that Prague is among the most visited cities in Europe. A number of reservations made via the Airbnb Prague is quite a new criterion how to evaluate city´s popularity. And once again, Prague is scoring high!
Airbnb Prague – the City Loved by Tourists
In 2016, more than 7 million tourists came to Prague to admire its beauty. It is almost six percent more than in 2015 and it seems that this increase is a steady trend. Visitors of Prague also want to see much more than Charles Bridge and the Castle as it was the case in the past. Today, they are looking also for the places which were often overlooked in the past. Neighborhoods like Vinohrady or Karlín are the new tourist hotspots. Maybe even more important data are about the overall nights spent in Prague by tourists – it was more than sixteen million nights in 2016.
Still increasing numbers of tourists are of course warmly welcomed by the city´s authorities, but at the same time, they are not happy with the fact that significant part of possible income from these tourists is escaping them as they do not sleep in traditional hotels and use Airbnb instead. It became a real problem for Prague´s city hall as numbers of those who are using advantages of private accommodation are on the rise and their share is in tens of percent of the order of magnitude.
Airbnb Prague Apartment´s – Airbnb´s New Bestsellers
Airbnb was founded in 2008 and since then, it brought the revolution into the tourist accommodation business. Via Airbnb, you can find the apartment in almost 35 thousand cities from more than 190 countries around the globe. The number of apartments for rent in Prague nears twelve thousand. It is no surprise at all that the offer meet the demand and the result is that Prague is the 9th most popular destination in the world on Airbnb website according to „for now“ results of 2017. In other words, it can be expected that up to three million of tourists will use non-standard accommodation for their stay in Prague in 2017.
And these three million people will not pay a standard tourism fee which normally goes to the city hall´s account. That is why Prague´s representatives are considering some form of taxation. They can be inspired by the example of Paris. In the French capital, anyone who rents his apartment via Airbnb or similar service must pay a fee to the city. We can expect this measure to take place in Prague in a near time.
